Arthur Roome was the son of Mrs. Roome of Kniveton, and the brother of Gunner George Roome, of the Royal Garrison Artillery. He stood well over 6 feet in height, and joined the Grenadier Guards soon after the outbreak of war, and was for a time stationed at Chelsea Barracks. After serving at the Front for a time, he was wounded severely in the head, and was admitted to a hospital in France on the 15th January 1916. He remained unconscious until his death on the 18th. He was very greatly respected in Kniveton and district, and was an enthusiastic worker in connection with the Kniveton Unionist League.
